What's covered

Included for free

  • Breakfast at all vetted hotels. Country Inn, Best Western, Hampton Inn, and Staybridge Suites all include a hot or continental breakfast. That covers one meal per day for every person in your party without any extra cost.
  • Base parking. Lot A at the Pfingston Reception Center is free. Arrive before 7 AM on ceremony mornings to get a close spot. There is no paid parking on base.
  • Both ceremonies. The Coin Ceremony on Wednesday and the Graduation Parade on Thursday are free to attend. No tickets, no fees.

What you'll pay for

  • Hotel (4 nights). Book early, graduation weekends fill fast. See the Hotels guide for a full comparison of the 4 vetted options.
  • Rental car (4 days). Effectively required. Rideshare drivers cannot enter Lackland (DoD background check required). Pick up at SAT airport on Tuesday, return Saturday.
  • Meals (lunch + dinner). Hotel breakfast is covered. Your Airman only joins for meals during Town Pass (~2 days). The calculator above breaks this out.
  • Gas + incidentals. Local driving is short (hotel to base is 5–15 min). Downtown parking, tips, and snacks round out the rest.

Ways to save

  • Ask for military rates. Most hotels within 10 miles of Lackland offer government or military rates. Call the front desk directly and ask, rates vary week to week and may be lower than what you see online.
  • Choose Staybridge Suites if you have 3 or more people. The full kitchen lets you buy groceries for a few lunches, which can offset the slightly higher nightly rate vs. eating out every meal.
  • Book the rental car early. Airport economy cars booked 3 to 4 weeks out can run $26 to $30 per day. Waiting until graduation week can push that to $50 or more. Compare rental cars for your travel dates.
  • Share the car with family. If multiple relatives are driving to San Antonio, coordinate so one or two cars cover the whole group instead of renting separately.
  • Free activities on Town Pass days. The Alamo is free to visit. Walking the River Walk costs nothing. The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is a free alternative for an afternoon activity.
