How to confirm your date

1. Ship date from MEPS. Your Guardian's ship date was set with their recruiter at MEPS, the same paperwork that starts their VARL visitor list. BMT runs the same cycle for every trainee, so the lookup above turns that Monday into a graduation Thursday.
2. The Zero Week check-in. Zero Week is also when your Guardian's VARL visitor list locks for good, no additions after. Contact during training stays very limited the whole seven and a half weeks, so whatever date your Guardian is able to confirm directly, whenever that contact happens, beats the lookup above.
3. Their first letter home. Written mail is a good way to double-check a date once training starts. Hold it up against what the lookup above says.

Your Guardian's graduation week

Guardian trainees train with Detachment 3, Space Delta 1 at JBSA-Lackland, and the family week runs the same Tuesday-through-Thursday shape as every Air Force class, through the same Pfingston Reception Center.

Tuesday: patching ceremony

USSF patches are applied to your Guardian's uniform, marking the shift from trainee to Guardian. It is a trainee milestone, not a family event. Families are not present for it. It happens Tuesday at the Bob Hope Theater, JBSA-Lackland. It is separate from Wednesday and Thursday's family events, so nothing about it changes when your family should plan to arrive. Plan your travel around the standard Tuesday arrival, this is not a reason to arrive any earlier.

Wednesday: Airman and Guardian's Run

The Reception Center opens at 6:00 AM. What the official Air Force schedule calls the "Airman's Run" at 7:30 AM carries a fuller name for joint classes, the Airman and Guardian's Run, a 1.5-mile run. It celebrates the culmination of Air Force and Space Force BMT, and families and guests attend. Your first glimpse of your trainee turned Guardian comes here, seven and a half weeks after they shipped.

The Coin Ceremony follows at 9:30 AM. The source material does not say whether Guardians take part in the Wednesday Coin Ceremony the same way Airmen do. Your Guardian's flight is the best source for ceremony specifics beyond what's here, details can vary by class.

Thursday: Graduation Parade

Buses depart for the Parade Grounds at 7:30 AM, and the Graduation Parade, the same Pass in Review every class marches in, starts at 9:00 AM. Your Guardian graduates in this ceremony alongside Air Force Airmen.

What's different for Space Force families

• A new uniform. A dark blue coat with an asymmetrical six-button front and a military standup collar. The first BMT class graduated in it on December 18, 2025 at Lackland.
• A different unit and flight numbers. Guardian trainees are organized under Detachment 3, Space Delta 1, and Guardian flights are numbered the same way Air Force flights are (for example, Flight 181). Your Guardian will tell you their own flight number once training starts.
• USSF-specific awards. Top graduates can also earn Guardian-specific honors, including Top Graduate and Iron Guardian, alongside the standard BMT awards every flight competes for.
• A different cadence. Guardian flights graduate several times a year, not every week. Your Guardian will confirm your exact date once they know it. The Space Force trains roughly 500 to 900 enlisted Guardians a year with about 8 dedicated USSF military training instructors.

What's identical

Everything else about graduation week works exactly the same for Guardian families. Base access runs through the same VARL visitor pass process, the same guest limits and prohibited items apply, and gates and hours are covered on the Getting There guide, and off-base Town Pass keeps the same rule: stay within one hour of JBSA-Lackland. Vetted rooms near the gate fill up for every graduation week regardless of which service is graduating, so the same booking-early advice applies to your family too.
